Have you ever looked closely at the court cards in a Standard Bicycle deck of cards:
The kings:
- Only the King of Spades is looking to the right
- Only the King of Diamonds has an axe, the other Kings have swords
- The “Suicide King”, if you look closely at the sleeve holding the sword on the King of Hearts, it is different than the other sleeve on that card which may mean that the King of Hearts was unarmed and murdered. Only the King of Hearts shows the sleeve
- Only the King of Hearts has no mustache, the others have mustaches
- The King of Diamonds is the only “one eyed king”
The Queens:
- There are no “one eyed queens”
- All of the queens have what appear to the clubs on their crowns, except the Queen of Diamonds
- All of the queens are holding flowers
- Only the Queen of Spades is looking right
- Only the Queen of Spades shows her sleeve (and it doesn’t match the sleeve on the King of Hearts)
The Jacks:
- The Jack of Spades and the Jack of Clubs are looking right, the others look left
- The Jack of Spades and the Jack of Hearts are “one eyed jacks”
- The Jack of Spades and the Jack of Hearts also have mustaches
- The Jack of Clubs is the only court card not showing the fingers of the hand
- Only the Jack of Clubs shows his sleeve, and if you believe the King of Hearts was murdered, the sleeve looks very similar to the one shown on the King
All the Kings and Queens have matching crowns (with clubs) except the Hearts. The King has clubs, the Queen does not.
Was it murder, and if so, by whom?
Looking at the clues, the other Kings weapons don't match the sword in the King of Hearts. The Queens most likely would have used poison, perhaps from the flowers they hold. Looking at the Jacks, none are holding a sword, but the Jack of Clubs and the Jack of Diamonds are holding what could be sheaths. The Jack of Hearts is holding an axe, and the Jack of Spades does not appear to be holding a weapon, much less a sword. So perhaps the culprit is the Jack of Clubs or Diamonds. But look at the tunic on the Jack of Diamonds. There appear to be arrow fletches. So it is likely that the Jack of Diamonds is an archer and is holding a quiver instead of a sheath. The Jack of Clubs is also hiding his fingers, so no fingerprints.
So while the evidence is circumstantial, I think the Jack of Clubs might have murdered the King of Hearts. Perhaps the motive was love, the Jack of Clubs in love with the Queen of Hearts kills the King of Hearts so he can "court" the widowed Queen.
