Most of the time it displays a simple digital clock. But at the appropriate moment, the clock fades away and a playing card appears. A few seconds later, the card disappears and the clock returns.

I used AI to help me build it.

This app doesn’t discover an unknown card. I need to know the card before entering it into the watch. It could be a card I forced, one I glimpsed, or one I know because I am using a stack.

The watch gives me another way to reveal it.

One presentation I like uses two spectators. The first person looks at a card. As far as everyone else is concerned, only that person knows what it is.

I ask a second spectator to look at my watch.

“I want to see how long it takes for you to get a sense of the card they’re thinking of. Watch the time, and if anything comes to you, say it.”

They look at the digital clock. After a short time, the clock fades away and the card appears. The second spectator announces it, and the first spectator confirms that it is their card.

Then the card fades away. The watch is showing the time again.

What I like about this is that the second spectator makes the revelation. I know the card, but they are the one who announces it. I can watch the two of them and let that moment happen.

If someone else looks at the watch afterward, there is only a clock to see. The second spectator is left to explain what happened.

Making it with AI

I started by describing what I wanted. AI wrote the code, and I installed it on the watch to try it. I used ChatGPT’s desktop agent for the coding. Amazfit has tools to upload code to the watch that is easy to use.

Then we went back and forth, making changes.

Some were things that sounded reasonable but didn’t work on the actual watch. I originally wanted a long press on the crown button to open the settings. The watch already had a function assigned to that action, and it took priority.

We changed it so a short press opens settings while the app is waiting for me to enter a card. Turning the crown begins entering a card instead.

At another point, pressing the button did nothing. I had AI put temporary messages on the watch screen so we could see what the button was reporting. That showed us the problem. Once it was corrected, we removed the messages.

Other changes came from simply using it. Small buttons for increasing and decreasing the settings were awkward. The watch has a crown, so why not use that? Now I select a setting and turn the crown to change its value.

This is what I find useful about working with AI. I can describe what I want in ordinary language, try the result, and then explain what needs changing. I still have to think through the handling and test it. AI doesn’t know whether an action feels natural on my wrist or whether the timing suits the presentation.

But it makes it practical to keep experimenting.

Using it

The app normally looks like a digital clock. Turning the crown moves a small, dim marker around the edge of the display to select the card’s value. Touching one of four areas selects the suit and locks in the card. A vibration confirms the selection.

Once the card is entered, I can trigger the reveal by changing the angle of my wrist or pressing the crown button.

The settings let me tailor what happens next to the effect I want.

Reveal delay: How long the clock remains before it starts fading away. This gives me time to lower my hand, finish a sentence, or direct someone’s attention.

Tilt threshold and tilt hold: How far I need to change the watch’s angle, and how long I hold it there, to start the reveal. I can adjust these to suit my handling.

Card gap: The pause between the clock fading away and the card beginning to appear.

Card hold: How long the revealed card remains before fading back to the clock. Setting this to zero means it waits for me to press the button.

To change a setting, I touch its button. The selected button turns orange. Turning the crown clockwise increases the value; counterclockwise decreases it. Pressing the crown selects the next setting. When I am finished, I touch Done and return to the clock.

For the two-spectator presentation, I want enough delay for the second spectator to settle their attention on the time. Then I want the card to remain long enough for them to recognize it and announce it, but disappear before the watch becomes the focus of everyone’s attention.

For a different presentation, I might want the card to remain visible until I decide to remove it. In that case, I set Card hold to zero and use the button.

The blank interval can change the feel of the reveal too. With no gap, the clock fades out and the card begins to appear. Adding a pause gives me a moment where the spectator is looking at an empty screen, waiting to see what happens.

It is a small tool, but having control over the timing gives me room to work out how I want to use it. The programming gets the card onto the screen. The handling, timing, and presentation are still mine to figure out.

I have been playing with another use for my Amazfit Balance 2 watch.
