I found it easier to do by swapping the right hand and left hand actions, so this is that description. This method sets up the deck so that in a five-handed poker game, the first player receives all three Kings and the dealer receives all three Aces. The instructions below have been rewritten to reverse the left and right hand actions from the original text.

What You Need to Start:

Six cards on top of the deck in a specific order:

The three Kings are on top.

The three Aces are directly beneath them.

The order from the very top down is: King, King, King, Ace, Ace, Ace.

Step 1: First Riffle Shuffle

This step sets up the first King and Ace to be correctly spaced.

Use your left hand to cut the top portion of the deck to your left. As you do this, secretly slide the top King onto the portion of the deck you are still holding in your right hand. This is basically a slip cut with the right first finger holding the top card in place.

Perform a riffle shuffle. During the shuffle, hold back four cards with your right thumb and four cards with your left thumb. The right hand should get to it’s four cards first, before the left hand. The left hand will hold back it’s four cards, but the last card the left hand drops is an Ace.

As you are shuffling, release the four cards from your right side first. Let them fall, followed by the first Ace from the other side. This creates a separation of four cards between the King and the Ace.

After the shuffle is complete, the other two Kings and two Aces are still on top of the deck.

Step 2: Second Riffle Shuffle

This step sets up the second pair of Kings and Aces.

Again, use your left hand to cut the top half of the deck to your left, but secretly slip the top King onto the portion of the deck you are holding in your right hand.

Repeat the riffle shuffle. This time, hold four cards with your right thumb but only two cards with your left thumb.

Complete the shuffle and square the deck.

Step 3: Third Riffle Shuffle

This step sets up the final pair of Kings and Aces.

With your right forefinger, hold back the top card as you use your left hand to cut the upper half of the deck to your left.

At this point, you will have a King on the right-hand portion of the deck and an Ace on the left-hand portion.

Perform a final riffle shuffle. As you do this, hold back four cards with your right thumb and hold none on your left side. Since the left hand block holds your stack you need to drop the right hand cards fast as to keep the stack together.

Let the four cards you are holding back with your right thumb fall last, on top of the deck, as you complete the shuffle.

Square up the deck.
(Note: You can perform a Zarrow shuffle on this last shuffle which will keep the stack together so you can have a more natural riffle.)

The Final Result:

After these three shuffles, the deck is set so that the first player will receive all three Kings, and the dealer will receive all three Aces in a five-handed game.

Afterthoughts

You can extend this to stacking four kings and four aces. Start with the four kings above the aces on top of the deck. The process of slip cutting and dealing is the same, except the first shuffle is done with the four right hand cards going under six cards held back in the left hand. After that the left hand holds back four, then two, then zero cards, for a total of four shuffles. Since you have to maintain the large block of stacked cards, I use a Zarrow shuffle on the last shuffle.

This is from “Riffle Shuffle Systems”.
