You’ll need a card with a reversed breather crimp<\/strong>\u2014a card that allows you to cut to it, positioning it as the bottom card<\/strong> of the cut-off portion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s how to set up the deck:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Place two aces<\/strong> about a quarter of the way down<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Put the breather crimp<\/strong> on top<\/strong> of those aces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Bring out the deck and perform a false shuffle or cut<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Explain that the spectator will select four random cards<\/strong> using an unusual cutting technique<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Demonstrate the technique<\/strong>:\n
        \n
      • Cut to the breather crimp<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Lift off that portion of the deck.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Turn it over.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Replace it back on top.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Now, have the spectator cut deeper<\/strong>, below the face-up<\/strong> cards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • They then turn over the portion they cut and place it back on top of the deck<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        The Reveal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        At this point, where the cards meet back-to-back, there are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • Two face-down aces<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Two face-up aces<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Since face-up aces are visible, you can\u2019t simply spread the deck<\/strong> to locate the back-to-back break. However, a natural break<\/strong> forms there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Finding the Aces<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          1. Pick up the deck and lift the cards at the natural break<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Use your left thumb<\/strong> a thumb off the first face-down card<\/strong> (an ace).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Set the deck down and have the spectator cut again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. Pick up the deck and repeat the process, thumbing off the second ace<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          5. Repeat a third time<\/strong>, leaving three face-down aces<\/strong> on the table.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            For the final ace<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            • After the spectator’s cut, spread the deck on the table.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Show the back-to-back break<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Pull out the first face-down card<\/strong> and add it to the other three.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              The Finale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

              Close the deck, then dramatically turn over the four face-down cards<\/strong> to reveal that the spectator has successfully cut to all four aces<\/strong>!               I was experimenting with the “cut deeper” method that I wrote about here and came up with a variation.
