They are lost into the deck as it is handed out for a good solid audience shuffle. The deck is taken back and immediately, without any fishy sleight of hand, the aces are found, one by one, by spelling to them.

In Nash’s version he relies on ten consecutive second deals to accomplish spelling to the first Ace, the Ace of Diamonds. While I can do a decent second deal, this seemed to be a bit more than I wanted. Especially since the other three aces were “self-working” in their spelling. I wanted something easy to do with any deck at hand.

The method can be divided into two phases, the first phase is to get the Aces to the correct positions to begin. The second phase is to actually spell out the names of the Aces to locate them.

What I do is have the spectator shuffle the deck. I then use my two-step cull to bring the four aces to the top of deck in the correct order of AD, AS, AH, and AC. Obviously there are other methods that could be used. You could remove the aces and display them, then “lose” them back into the deck, but control them back to the top using a multiple shift. Also you could have the deck preset, then bring it out and do some false shuffles retaining the top four aces.

Now as you patter about a deck of cards and what gamblers and magicians can do, you spread over the top fourteen cards. Do this by spreading three groups of four cards, and then two more. Close up the spread taking a left little finger break under the fourteenth cards.

Now you are going to slip cut the Ace of Diamonds to the break. With the right hand, lift the cards above the break and pull them to the right as the left thumb retains the top card. Slap the right hand cards back down onto the left. This looks like a simple cut. Immediately continue to do my step-ladder false cut.

Alternatively, if you have the Aces in Spades, Clubs, Hearts, Diamonds order on the top of the deck you can use a spread cull to put the Ace of Diamonds in the correct location. Simply spread the cards face down to display them and pull the fourth Ace under the spread, beneath the top three aces. Continue to spread the cards, counting them in your mind and feed the Ace of Diamonds under the fourteenth card.

Frank Garcia has a simple method for getting the deck set, described in “Million Dollar Card Secrets”, in the description of “Anytime Four Aces”. In this case, the Aces are removed and placed face up on the table. During the removal and display of the Aces, the tenth card from the top of the deck is noted. The deck is turned face down and the top fifteen or sixteen cards are cut off and placed behind the Ace of Diamonds. Then the deck is cut into three more packets and placed behind the other Aces.

The packet behind the Ace of Diamonds is picked up and fanned face up. Place the Ace of Diamonds into the spread in front of the tenth card that you had previously spotted. The Ace is now in the eleventh location. Close up the fan. With the right hand pick up and turn face down the Ace of Clubs. Slide it under the packet of cards that is below it, and pick up the cards and turn them face up onto the cards in the left hand. You are picking up the cards in this manner as to hide the bottom card of the packet. Now double cut the Ace of Clubs to the top of the deck. Repeat this with the other two Aces and the deck is properly stacked.

The cards are now set. Deal, spelling “Ace of Diamonds”, one card down for each letter. Turn over the next card to show the Ace of Diamonds. Place the dealt cards back on top. If you want you can do a false shuffle or cut here. Repeat the dealing, spelling out “Ace of Clubs” and turning over the next card, showing the Ace of Clubs.

To spell out the Ace of Hearts a slight adjustment is needed. Buckle the bottom card of the cards held in the left hand as you pick up the dealt cards and place them onto the left hand cards. Your right thumb picks up the break above the bottom card.

Now double cut that bottom card to the top by starting a swing cut of the top halve of the deck into the left hand. Complete the cut adding the bottom card to the left hand cards as you complete the cut, but maintain the break. I now use the step-ladder cut to complete the double cut.

You are now set to spell out the last two aces without any sleights. Simply deal out “Ace of Hearts” as you did with the previous aces, and then spell out “Ace of Spades”.

[140,7,159

post-5895","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ace-trick","category-magic","category-self-working
["GET
