You do this shuffle to “Show how mixed the cards are.” Alternatively, you could begin the trick with this setup on top and skip this step.

Okay, the situation is from the top is Ace, indifferent card, Ace, indifferent card, Ace, indifferent card, Ace.

Ideally you should have two spectators. You now perform the classic double cut deeper force four times.

Have the first spectator cut a small packet (about a quarter of the deck) off, turn it face up and place it back onto the deck.

Have the second spectator “cut deeper”, below the just cut cards, and turn that whole packed over and place it back onto the deck.

Pick up the deck, spread through the face up cards to the first face down card. Up-jog that face down card (an Ace) and then drop it face down onto the table. You are holding the spread of face up cards in your right hand. Use them to flip the next face down card face up to show an indifferent card, as you say “If they had cut one card deeper they would have cut to that card.”

Push that face up card under the other face up cards in your right hand and then flip all of those cards face down on top of the cards in the left hand, keeping a break between the two halves.

Double cut to the break, bringing the setup back to the top.

Now just repeat those steps three more times.

Finish by turning the Ace face up.

Here is a simple “Spectator cuts to the aces” trick.
