Being of Scot blood, I didn’t want to spend that much on a set of four wooden sticks.

I did have a set of white blank dice that I could use to make my own. You can buy blank dice on Amazon, getting 30 for about $8.59. I made up the “sticks” by gluing 4 of the dice together, so I was able to make two sets, each set costing about $4.29, not counting the cost of a Sharpie and of some Superglue.

To make these, simply superglue them into stacks of four. Then with a sharpie add the numbers to each side. The numbers on the top, second from the top, and bottom add up to 18. For example in the photo above, you can see 4, 9, and 5 on one side, which adds to 18. Also a 9, 2, and 7, also adding to 18. That is the main secret to the effect, which you can learn about at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZRD5UkAm2Y.

To fill in the remaining blank die you put numbers on opposite sides so that you can look at one side and determine what the number is on the other, opposite side. I put 3 opposite of 4, 5 opposite of 6, 7 opposite of 8, and then 9 opposite of 9. So if I see 1363 on one side I know the opposite side is 4542. Note that I compute the 4542 buy reading the 1363 from right to left.

This lets me have the spectator place the dice standing on end with one face facing them. They can add the numbers they see together, yet I can predict that number by looking at the numbers on my side (looking at the third dice from the top)

For example, look at the next two images:

What the spectator sees and adds

What I see

I look at the third row from the top and seeing 2763 I know that the spectators third row is showing 4581.
