One of the ideas was to use it as a web cam.  I thought that was a great idea so in a very short amount of time I had a new &#8220;cat&#8221; cam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"cat cam\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NaaDrQy017I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>My old Windows phone is a Lumina 920.  I charged it up and installed a free app called  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Win IP cam. (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/p\/win-ip-camera\/9nblgggz4xb1?activetab=pivot:overviewtab\" target=\"_blank\">Win IP cam<\/a> (there are similar apps available for Android and Iphones.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step was to get a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"phone tripod (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B071LR7VVT\/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\">phone tripod<\/a> to hold the camera.  I found a nice one on Amazon Prime for $8.00.  It even has a quick release plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"726\" data-src=\"https:\/\/robertjwallace.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/catcam.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3443 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/robertjwallace.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/catcam.jpg 700w, https:\/\/robertjwallace.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/catcam-289x300.jpg 289w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 700px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 700\/726;\" \/><figcaption>cat cam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While I normally just use a web browser to watch Abby, I  also wanted the option of capturing the video to  a file, so I googled and found a nice open-source piece of software that runs in Linux (as well as Mac and Windows), called OBS Studio.
