I like the concept of the unit upjog addition, but often find the aces together when I need to be adding an extra card behind the first ace. So instead I simply use a Braue add on technique to get into the required position of having four cards face down on the table in the order, Ace, indifferent card, Ace, indifferent card. The spectators think all four aces are on the table. Here is what I do.

First, if using my own deck I use a bottom cut breather crimp. This a card with the “work” put onto the face of the card, causing it to cut to the bottom of the deck. Have the deck shuffled and then cut the breather to the bottom. Spread through the deck and throw each ace to the table as you find them.

Now with the left hand get a break under the top two cards of the deck as your right hand picks up the aces and places them on top of the deck. I will rearrange the order of the aces as a pretext for placing the aces back onto the deck.

Make a gesture with the right hand as you explain that you are going to show something magical with the four aces. The right hand comes back and picks up the aces (which are face up) and the two cards above the break.

The left thumb pulls the first ace off the right hand packet onto the deck, flipping it face down. Repeat with the next ace, but drop one of the extra cards on top of it. Remember which aces these are. Your right hand is now holding two face up aces with a face down card hidden under them. On top of the deck is an indifferent card followed by two aces.

Pull the third ace off and flip if face down onto the deck. Now drop the two cards in the right hand as one on top of the deck. Push off the face up ace and flip it face down.

Push off the top four cards and drop them face down onto the table. The spectators should think they are the four aces, in reality, they are an Ace, an indifferent card, an Ace, and another indifferent card.

Ask the spectator to take the top ace, name it and place onto the deck and then give the deck a single cut.

You take the next card, miscall it as one of the first two aces you flipped over, place it on top of the deck and give the deck a single cut, cutting to the breather crimp.

Ask the spectator to take the next ace, name it and place onto the deck and then give the deck a single cut.

You take the last card, miscall it as the last ace and place it on top of the deck and give the deck a single cut, cutting to the breather crimp.

The four aces are now on top of the deck. Have the spectator say the magic words, or wave their hands over the deck magically, then reveal the aces.

I love the material of Larry Jennings.
