The fan is closed and the deck is cut, then shuffled twice. At the completion of the second shuffle, all four aces are on the top of the deck.

This is accomplished with a Faro shuffle. When one ace is on top of the deck, the next ace 13 cards below that, the next 13 below that, and the last 13 below the previous, then two Faro shuffles will return the four aces to the top of the deck.

The trick is to get to the aces properly in the proper positions in the deck. This requires you to count cards visually in the fan, without the spectators being aware of what youre doing. Fanning the cards face up makes this easier but with practice you can quickly count cards with the fan face down as well.

Remove four aces from the deck. Fan the deck face down. Visually count six cards from the right end of the fan and insert the first ace there, leaving it protruding.

Now count twelve cards over to the left and insert the second ace there. Count the cards in groups of four. Optionally, when inserting the ace, separate a block of cards to the left slightly, either four or six, by slightly lifting up on the cards as the ace is inserted, causing the cards to break five or six cards away from where the ace is inserted. Then visually count from that point. You can also place an ace against the fan at eight cards over and move the ace to the left letting the ace click against each of the edges of the cards below it, inserting it after four clicks. The key is to insert the ace at the correct place without making it look like you are counting.

Repeat the previous step.

The last ace is inserted six cards from the left end of the fan.

Situation check: the aces are sticking it out of the fan, with 12 cards between each ace.

Close up the fan leaving the aces sticking out of the front. Push the aces in flush with the deck taking a little finger break above any of the aces as you this do. An easy method for doing this is to push the aces in with a diagonal push through action, so that the aces are side-jogged at the lower right side of the deck.

Double cut the deck at the break so that you end up with one of the aces on top of the deck. The other aces are spread through the deck, each separated from the others by twelve cards.

Performed two Faro shuffles, cutting the deck at the middle of the deck for each shuffle so that the aces are on top. It is easy to cut at the middle because there is an ace there that you can spot.

After the two Faro shuffles, the aces are back on top of the deck.

Effect: The four aces are fairly inserted into the fanned deck, in different locations.
